Two Victims Identified in Brown University Shooting as Law Enforcement Persist in Search for Perpetrator.

The pair of scholars who died in the recent violent attack on the university campus had tributes paid to them on Monday – as a manhunt for their shooter carried on following the discharge by local law enforcement of the single suspect questioned in the case.

Honoring a Lost Student

Ella Cook, a second-year student from Alabama, was called “an amazing, stable, pious, radiant soul”, according to the Advent Cathedral in Birmingham, which paid tribute to her at a gathering on Sunday.

Cook was vice-president of Brown’s branch of the College Republicans organization, according to the organization. The White House press secretary also shared words of sorrow publicly, stating: “Words cannot express. Thinking of her loved ones and companions, particularly her mother and father.”

An International Student

The other person killed was MukhammadAziz Umurzokov, a citizen of Uzbekistan in his freshman year at the prestigious university, according to relatives.

The victim's identification was officially acknowledged by the foreign office of Uzbekistan.

“He possessed remarkable kindness, humor, and intelligence. He harbored grand aspirations of becoming a neurosurgeon and aiding others,” his sister, Samira Umurzokova said in a online post.

What Happened

Nine other people were wounded in the weekend shooting in the school of engineering of Brown’s campus in Providence, during the university's examination week.

Authorities said on Sunday evening that a 24-year-man taken into custody in a raid at a lodging about 17 miles from the university earlier in the day was being released.

“We have a murderer out there,” said the state's top prosecutor, Peter Neronha.

He added, “Investigations can lead one way, and then you have to regroup and head another way, and that is the current situation over the last day or so.”

Public Fear

Providence’s mayor, Brett Smiley, noted: “It is expected to provoke renewed concern for our city”.

The shooter opened fire inside a room in the engineering facility on Saturday, firing more than 40 rounds from a handgun, a police source informed the Associated Press.

Police that raided the hotel found a pair of pistols and two ammunition clips when the suspect was taken into custody, the news agency reported.

Those Hurt

Among those wounded, one pupil was allowed to go home, said Christina Paxson, Christina Paxson. Seven more were in critical but stable condition, and one remained in critical care, officials reported on Sunday.

An educational institution, a independent school in North Carolina, said a former student, Kendall Turner, was one of the critically injured.

Further Tributes

Cook was remembered at a religious service in Birmingham on Sunday. A pastor commented, “Her presence was a wonderful, steady, pious glow not only in her youth... but at the university she was a shining example in that institution as well.”

A group leader, Martin Bertao, shared a message from the organization. “She was famed for her fearless, heroic, and gentle spirit as she served her chapter and peers,” he said.

An American diplomat, Jonathan Henick, said he was “extremely sorrowful” by Umurzokov’s death in a message. “We offer our heartfelt sympathies to his relatives, companions, and schoolmates and grieve for of his potential.”

The fatal shooting at Brown, the country's seventh most historic university with about thousands of bachelor's and 3,000 graduate students, occurred during one of at least 392 shooting incidents reported in the US so far in the current year, according to data. That Monday marked the 349th day of the year.
