People have assembled around the country to commemorate the second anniversary since the Hamas-led offensive on 7 October 2023, as talks advanced in Egypt over an end to the war in Gaza.

The assault saw over 1,200 people dead and 251 others taken away to Gaza as captives. It was the uniquely deadliest day for the Jewish community since the Holocaust.

Israel responded by beginning a armed campaign in Gaza which has taken more than 67,000 people, as reported by the territory's Hamas-administered health ministry. Its statistics are considered accurate by the United Nations and other global organizations.

"Our bloodthirsty opponents have caused great damage, but they have not broken us," Benjamin Netanyahu remarked on that day.

He also pledged to "realize all the objectives of the war: the release of all the kidnapped, the removal of the Hamas government and the promise that Gaza will never again create a threat to Israel".

Memorial Ceremonies Across Israel

The Israeli government rescheduled formal memorials until 16 October - after the completion of the Jewish High Holiday season - but ceremonies still took place throughout the country on Tuesday.

A memorial ceremony for the families of Israeli citizens who died in the Hamas attack was held in Tel Aviv. Arranged by the affected families, it was aired across Israeli TV networks.

A period earlier, a minute's silence was held around the country.

Peace Discussions in Egypt

Meanwhile, Israeli and Hamas delegations met in the North African coastal city of the Egyptian city for a follow-up session of third-party negotiations to examine the terms of the agreement.

A senior representative involved in the negotiations indicated that an late session of mediated discussions began at 19:00 Cairo time.

The official stated the day's discussions concluded without concrete outcomes, because of conflicting views over the recommended Israeli withdrawal maps from Gaza and over safeguards Hamas seeks to ensure Israel does not restart combat after the opening period of the agreement.

He noted that the talks are "tough and have not yet deliver any significant progress," but mentioned that mediators are making efforts to narrow the differences between the both parties.

Critical Issues in Negotiations

  • An enduring ceasefire
  • The swap of the captives still detained by Hamas for detainees from Gaza
  • The withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza
  • Arrangements for assistance deliveries
  • After-conflict management of the area

Civilian Feeling

In Tel Aviv's memorial area earlier, young a woman - whose brother lived through the attack on the outdoor event, where 378 people were lost their lives and many more were taken hostage by Hamas militants - shared: "No place feels like home anymore and until all the hostages return not a single person will feel safe."

"Once we see all home returned, we can breathe once more. Then we can begin to rebuild," she added.

Near Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's official dwelling in the capital, people congregated to show their backing for the relatives of the abducted. Israel reports forty-eight stay in captivity in Gaza, approximately twenty of whom are considered to be living.

Activist a participant stated: "It's necessary do whatever arrangement necessary for the captives to return. But we sincerely need assurances that we will be protected."

Surveys now frequently demonstrate that around the majority of Israelis prefer the war to finish in as payment for the release of the abducted.

Gaza Conditions

At the site of the music event, grieving people came together to remember the victims.

From the site, the boom of aerial bombardments and explosions could be detected just a few kilometres away in Gaza, where local people said the severe Israeli shelling continued.

In Gaza City, attacks were documented in the early hours of Tuesday in the western district, sector and Nasr areas and in the eastern district of the community, as well the camp to the northwest.

"When the dusk comes, the fear appears with it," evacuated urban resident a local woman, whose teenage son was killed by an Israeli air strike previously, shared.

"My family are terrified of the attacks. All the night we are resting together, embracing, notably my little child who rests his head on me the entire evening."

"Constantly we look at the reports to see developments. And I'm afraid that this truce will not be achieved and that the conflict will return to us."

Humanitarian Emergency

The medical facility in the urban area announced it had received the corpses of half dozen people by the afternoon, including three who lost their lives in an Israeli bombing in the southern area.

A different healthcare center in the southern urban center of the city indicated two more dead people had been delivered. A person was died by Israeli forces while seeking help to the south region, medical staff said.

The territory's health ministry announced twenty-five of the {territ
