The former personal attorney for Donald Trump has left her position as the US Attorney for New Jersey. This follows a judicial decision that invalidated her right to serve.

Acceptance of Resignation

US Attorney General, the Attorney General, announced Habba's resignation on the start of the week. Bondi stated that the appeals court finding made it "untenable" for the official to lead the department effectively.

"Let no one confuse adherence to the ruling as defeat," she wrote. "My fight will now stretch across the nation."

Judicial Challenge

Her resignation follows closely on a federal appellate panel ruled that she had been serving in violation of the law as US attorney. This ruling is could influence many legal proceedings in the state.

The appellate judges ruled that a temporary posting that did not receive Senate approval ran afoul of the statute on vacant positions.

Future Role and Reaction

Bondi said that Habba will remain at the DOJ as a top consultant. Habba plans to pursue additional appeals of the court's action, aiming for a overturned decision.

Writing online, Bondi argued that the court "cannot be permitted to override the appointment of prosecutors responsible for carrying out the primary duty of the administration of criminal prosecution."

She highlighted the prosecutor's work and pointed out that during her run, the Newark saw a one-fifth decrease in offenses. Additionally that the city of Camden recorded its first summer in 50 years with no murders.

Background and Previous Role

The 41-year-old attorney, first joined the former president's legal defense in recent years. She went on to represented her client in his business records case in 2024, when he was conviction on 34 counts of document fraud.

Prior to assuming the federal prosecutor position, the former president had stated he was appointing her as his White House advisor if re-elected, calling her as deeply loyal and a "tireless advocate for justice".
